Local contemporary artist Tad Smith will unveil a new exhibit, “Duality,” with an opening from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (Feb. 4) at the Smiley Café, 1309 East Third Ave.
In the exhibit, Smith (who is also director of creative services for Ballantine Communications), uses bold black lines in his abstract portraits.
“Capturing who a person is with a clean line, who a person becomes with a swirl. Lines that transform a personality. Shape-shifting. The outline of the face from the cheek down to the chin, a person’s smile, how their hair falls, and the soul in their eyes. Less is more,” Smith says on his website. “I take away details to emphasize the beauty of each curve. My task as an artist is to find the perfect line and capture it.”
