If you’re looking to finish up your holiday gift-buying, or you are in the market for a new piece of art – and you want your dollars to go to a cause, there’s a group of artists who may have just what you’re looking for.
Through Jan. 31, members of the artist-critique group “Through the Looking Glass” are displaying and selling their paintings in the Smiley Cafe, 1309 East Third Ave., in their show called “Public Lands Art Show.” Fifty percent of all sales will go to the San Juan Citizens Alliance, said artist Cheryl Roberts.
“Public Lands Art Show” features 24 pieces, which are replaced as they are sold, Roberts said, adding that if you see a piece you are interested in, the artist’s contact information is displayed next to each piece.
Roberts said that San Juan Citizens Alliance was chosen as beneficiary of the show because of the effort the Alliance has put forth to protect our public lands, and because of the joy the artists themselves get from painting and exploring our lands.
“It’s important to bring the awareness to those local people that want to support the San Juan Citizens Alliance’s efforts to keep things public,” Roberts said. “(Public lands) is our passion; and we want to be able to paint there ourselves because that’s what gives us so much pleasure and we express ourselves there. We want others to see what we see and what we enjoy.”
