Native American artists sought for program
The Museum at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College invites up to four Native American artists from the Southwest to participate in its Artist Leadership Program to undertake viewing and exploration of museum collections for inspiration, and to create and present a community project about their art after their museum experience.
This project is funded through The National Museum of the American Indian’s Artist Leadership Program, and reflects the goals of the program.
Artists will consult with staff at the Center of Southwest Studies to create a plan and budget to visit the center and select other places for cultural material research, participate in targeted training opportunities, and practice sharing their inspiration and knowledge in a broader way. After the museum visits, each artist will present a community project, generally in the form of a workshop, speaking as voices of authority on their art.
