Ballet school opening for classes
The new San Juan Ballet School will open for classes in fall 2015. The studio is founded and directed by former Kansas City Ballet School director Emily Simpson Grandt. After relocating to Durango in 2014, Simpson Grandt managed auditions and local rehearsals for children involved in the State Street Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” and taught ballet at Bella Dance.
San Juan Ballet School will begin offering Ballet II (ages 8-10), Ballet III (ages 11-13) and Advanced Ballet (ages 13-18, or by placement) in September. Simpson Grandt also will teach Storybook Ballet/Creative Movement (preschool) and Storybook Ballet/Pre-Ballet (ages 5-7) for Durango Arts Center.
An open house and kick-off party will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in the Durango Arts Center dance studio, where parents can learn more about Simpson Grandt and the school and register children for the fall 2015 semester.
San Juan Ballet is located in the dance studio at DAC, 802 East Second Ave.
