Animas River Blues Fest kicks off today in Aztec

The ninth annual Animas River Blues Fest will bring two days of blues shows to Riverside Park and the Historic Aztec Theatre in Aztec this weekend.

This year’s lineup features Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps, Bad Brad & The Fat Cats, Todd Tijerina Blues Band, Studebaker John & The Hawks and more.

The festival will kick off at 7:30 tonight with a concert at the Historic Aztec Theater, 104 N. Main Ave. The show will feature The Pleasure Pilots and One Roof Blues.

On Saturday, the festival moves to its traditional outdoor venue of Riverside Park, 500 S. Light Plant Road, where it will feature live blues performances, music, beer, arts vendors, a kids area and more from noon to 10 p.m.

Sacred Arts puts out call for entries

The ninth annual Sacred Arts Festival, which will take place in September in Durango, is seeking works of art, photography, poetry and original music expressing the sacred – and representing any faith tradition – for this year’s festival.

Submission forms are available online at www.sacredartsfestival.com. They also can be picked up at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave., or by calling 247-1129, ext. 14.

Hosted by 3rd Ave. Arts, the festival will be held at St. Mark’s. It kicks off with an opening artist reception Sept. 26. Visit www.sacredartsfestival.com for more information.

Merely Players selling 2014-15 tickets

Merely Players is selling tickets for its 2014-15 season, which will include an original work by local artist Sarah Syverson called “Growing,” a contemporary drama called “Other Desert Cities,” the musical “Mary Poppins” and “Much Ado About Nothing.”
