Playwriting workshop coming to DAC

New York City playwright Peter Gil-Sheridan will teach a playwriting workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.

Students will learn the principles that guide drama, and will begin to develop their story ideas through plot and character with in-workshop exercises.

‘Real History’ to return to FLC Monday

A group of Fort Lewis College cultural centers, students and staff will present the seventh annual “Real History of the Americas” program on Columbus Day.

The program will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Student Union Ballroom at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive. It will include poetry, film, dance and live music that takes a positive but different look at the history of North and South America from the viewpoints of Hispanic, African-American, Asian and Native people, among others.

Guest performers will include Dominique Christina and Denice Frohman of Sister Outsider Poetry and “SupaMan.”

Artists sought for wilderness show

The Durango Arts Center is seeking member artists for its 2014 member exhibition, which will be a celebration of wilderness.

The show, “An Enduring Wilderness,” will open Oct. 24 with a reception in the Barbara Conrad Gallery. It offers an opportunity for DAC member artists to create work that illuminates the splendor of the natural world and explores the relationship between self and the landscapes of nature.

Music in Mountains jazz series returns

Music in the Mountains is relaunching its jazz series this fall in Durango.

Concerts will be held at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 23 and Nov. 20 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.

The first concert will feature members of the Jeff Solon Jazz Trio performing works from Solon’s recent album, “Alchemy.”
