Stillwater to host Winter Wonder Bands

The Stillwater Foundation’s fourth annual Winter Wonder Bands fundraising concert will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Durango VFW Hall, 1533 Main Ave. The musical event will showcase Stillwater’s youth bands and ensembles; musicians will perform everything from blues to jazz, pop and Latin fusion.

Tickets are $5 at the door, and participants are welcome to come and go as they please. The event also will feature food from Zia Taqueria, homemade desserts and a silent auction.

Proceeds will go directly toward providing after-school music and athletic programs for youth in the La Plata County area.

DAC MicroGrants applications open

The Durango Arts Center’s 2015 MicroGrant application cycle now is open for applications.

The program distributes small funds to emerging and established artists in La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, Dolores and San Juan counties. The goal is to serve as a catalyst to further artists’ work while they live and create in Southwest Colorado.

The program is open to artists working in music, literature, film, visual arts, media and performing arts.

Pro actor to lead technique workshop

Professional actor Dallas Padoven will lead an Audition Technique Workshop from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.

The class will offer tips, tools and feedback to help actors improve their auditioning skills. It is open for ages middle school through adults. Registration is $50.
