Local photographer featured in exhibit
The work of Durango photographer Joaquin Salazar is featured in a new online exhibit “Visions of the Bosque.” The exhibit is part of the “Save the Bosque” campaign, which aims to preserve a stretch of riparian riverside forest that bisects Alburquerque, New Mexico.
Salazar’s photographs, which were made over two days while traveling through central New Mexico, capture stunning sunrises, birds in flight and the life that teems on the Bosque habitat. Proceeds of the show will be donated to the Bosque Action Team.
Visit www.savethebosque.org for more information or to see the show.
DAC offers solar print-making class
Louise Grunewald will teach a solar print-making class, “Capturing Sunlight,” at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave., Jan. 10-11.
In the class, students will learn how to transfer images to a UV-sensitive solar plate using the power of the sun. Techniques for exposing the plate, preparing paper for printing, inking the plate and running small editions on an etching press will be covered.
The technique is suitable for almost any kind of image, including words or a combination of text and imagery.
Students will end the weekend with small editions of their images and an increased understanding of the world of print-making. Visit www.durangoarts.org for more information.
