Local librarian releases kids’ book

Durango Public Library’s children’s librarian Amadee Ricketts and photographer James Orndorf announces the release of their picture book, Cortez the Gnome.

The photo-illustrated book tells the story of a gnome who lives in a juniper tree and sets out across the desert to find his long-lost brother. Cortez the Gnome is available at Maria’s Bookshop and through online retailers. The book features hand lettering and an original map by artist Clint Reid, formerly of Durango’s Studio &.

Volunteers sought for art maintenance

Durango’s Public Art Commission is seeking volunteers to help with annual maintenance of the city’s collection of public art.

Each year, members of the Public Art Commission inspect the sculptures for any damage and wax the numerous bronze sculptures to help protect their patina. The annual maintenance day will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

For more information or to volunteer, email Sherri Dugdale at art@durangogov.org or call 375-5002.
