Marine Brass Quintet to perform Monday

The Untied States Marine Corps will present a Brass Quintet Concert at 7 p.m. Monday in Roshong Recital Hall in Jones Hall at Fort Lewis College.

Snowdown seeking bids for poster art

The Snowdown Board of Directors is seeking bids from artists for the 2017 poster art and design services for the 2017 Intergalactic Snowdown theme products.

Sorrel Sky Gallery announces events

Sorrel Sky Gallery, 282 Main Ave., announces these events:

The two-person show featuring contemporary Western painter Carrie Fell and Navajo jewelry artist Cody Sanderson will open from 5 to 7 p.m. July 7. The artists will be present at the reception, and the show will continue through July.

“Wildlife in Wild Places: Paintings by Edward Aldrich” will open April 7. The public is invited to meet Aldrich at a reception for the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. The show runs through April.

The workshop, “Painting Wildlife,” with wildlife artist Edward Aldrich will take place from April 8 to April 10. In this three-day workshop, students will work on both drawings and paintings, and the varieties and subtleties of animals and their habitats through demonstrations, discussion, critiquing and painting. Aldrich will also teach effective techniques for depicting fur and feathers while creating an illusion of form and solidity. Designed for the beginner to intermediate painters, the focus of the workshop will be on oil painting, though any medium may be used. The cost is $395. Entries sought for annual exhibition

Artists are invited to submit artwork to the annual juried exhibition at the Durango Arts Center which will open on May 27.

This annual competition is open to all artists (ages 18 and older) working in any traditional or contemporary 2D and 3D media except film. Artwork must be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24 and will be judged on May 25.

Series features ‘Theatre Games’

Register now for the final workshop in the The Saturday Series, “Theatre Games: Building an Ensemble,” with Theresa A. Carson from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 2 at the Duranogo Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.

Participants will learn how to play with others and form a strong ensemble using both verbal and non-verbal communication, listening skills and creative juices. Carson is currently the artistic director and theatre manager of the Durango Arts Center, an adjunct faculty member for the Fort Lewis College Theatre and has served as the artistic director of Sandstone Productions for six years for the city of Farmington. Submissions sought for two art exhibits

Durango Arts Center is hosting a call for artwork submissions for two juried exhibits to be held this summer.

The 40th Annual Juried Art Exhibition is open to all artists working in any traditional or contemporary 2D and 3D media except film. Submissions are due to DAC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24. The 2016 Juried Plein Air Exhibit, “An Artist’s Vision of Reality,” is open to all artists and entries are to be plein air, any medium except photography, created within the last two years and not larger than 3 feet x 3 feet. All work submitted must be for sale. Submissions are due to DAC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 28. The juror will be Don Cooke, a local physician who has been painting seriously since the late 1990s.

Exhibitors sought for arts festival

The Durango Arts Center will present the Durango Autumn Arts Festival on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 at 802 East Second Ave.

Juried by regional arts professionals, this year showcases artists and artisans sharing their paintings, sculptures, photography, mixed media works, jewelry, ceramics and unique works in glass, wood, metal and fiber. Participation is limited to 100 exhibitors. The application deadline is May 20.

School of the West announces classes

Mancos School of the West will offer these classes at Mt. Lookout Grange, 680 Grand Ave, Mancos:

“So You Want to Write ...” with Suzanne Strazza will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 12, 19, 26 and May 3, 10. In this workshop, participants will put words together to share tales with one another. No experience is necessary.

“Batik III” with Dian Law will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29 and 30. Participants will learn the basics of silk batik dying through hands-on practice, while also working on unifying color schemes with undercoat and overcoats of color.

“Pictorial Copper Enameling” with Jim and Dian Law will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8. Students will create works on a 2D level while learning the basics of copper enamel.

“Radical Dimensions in Glass Mosaic” with Kelley Knickerbocker will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 3 and June 4. The class will feature lecture and slideshow, cutting and setting demonstrations, and the creation of two mosaics. Students will learn to execute two variations of un-grouted glass-on-glass mosaic. The cost is $400. The last day to register is May 1.
