Young guitarists showcase their skills

Ruth Cutcher and The Guitar Dojo Kids – musicians who range in age from 6 to 12 – will perform a free classical guitar concert from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Smiley Auditorium, 1309 East Third Ave.

The concert will feature solo performances by several young guitarists.

The family-friendly event is free. Donations of non-perishable food items will benefit the Manna Soup Kitchen.

Youth Orchestra show Monday at FLC

The San Juan Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.

The concert will feature musical selections from Michael Mauldin, Jonathan Peters and Franz Schubert. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Visit www.sanjuansymphony.com.

Dancing Spirit offers bowls, bread, soup

Dancing Spirit Community Arts Center in Ignacio will hold its annual Fill Your Bowl for Art fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Participants can get all-you-can-eat bread and soup in handmade pottery bowls that they can keep. The event also will launch the center’s Holiday Art Market.

The cost is $15 for soup and a bowl, $10 for soup only and $5 for children.

The center is located at 755 Goddard Ave.

John Wimberley doc to premiere Tuesday

The one-hour American Masters series documentary “John Wimberley – A Metaphysic of Light,” will screen at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave.

Along with watching the film, participants can view some original Wimberley framed prints. A discussion will follow the film. The event is free, but seating is limited. Call 946-6994 for more information.

Festival of Trees to light up Train Museum

Community Connection’s annual Festival of Trees celebration will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train Museum, 479 Main Ave.

The event will feature entertainment and chances to win decorated trees or gifts. The local tradition benefits people with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Anasazi Center to host juried exhibit

A new contemporary arts exhibit that melds Native American traditions to showcase history from a modern perspective will open with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday at the Anasazi Heritage Center, 27501 Highway 184 in Dolores.

“Ancestral Homelands Connection to Land, Space and Time” is a juried art show that features works by alumni, faculty, staff and students from the Institute of American Indian Arts community in Santa Fe.

Guest speaker McKeon Dempsey will talk at the reception. The exhibit will be up through October of 2015.
