Enviro center event to feature documentary

The Fort Lewis College Environmental Center will present its 13th annual REEL Environmental Film Experience on Thursday at the Smiley Auditorium with a screening of “DamNation.” Doors open at 5 p.m.; the film starts at 6 p.m.

The documentary, which examines a growing movement in the U.S. to decommission obsolete dams, follows the rebound of newly free-flowing rivers across America and looks at the individuals whose lives are devoted to fighting for healthy watersheds.

Director Ben Knight will be on hand along with local resource managers and experts to discuss local water issues and what citizens can do to get involved. The event will also feature food, beer and a live auction. Tickets are $12 at the door.

Suzanne Vega to perform at FLC

Singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega – whose quiet neo-folk style is exemplified in songs like “Tom’s Diner” and “Luka” – will play a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.

Vega, who shot to fame in the late ’80s before becoming a Lilith Fair staple, released a new album, “Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles,” in February. Opening the show will be roots-rock folk duo The Lindells, who have been performing together in the American West for more than three decades.

Tickets start at $23.40 and are available at www.durangoconcerts.com, by calling 247-7657 or in person at the Durango Welcome Center at the corner of Eighth Street and Main Avenue.
