Arts Center offers kids classes in August

Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave., will offer two summer classes for kids and teens in August.

“Patterned Paper, Prints, Paintings and Pots” will be held Monday through Friday. The morning session (9 a.m.-noon) is for ages 5-7, and the afternoon session (1-4 p.m.) is for ages 8-11. Students will play with patterned landscapes, texture patterns and printed cloth patterns. The cost is $112.50 for DAC members and $125 for nonmembers.

A Teen Artist Retreat will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11-13. The cost is $120 for DAC members and $150 for nonmembers. The camp will focus on printmaking processes that include trace monoprints and woodcuts. Denver artist Jennifer Ghormley will cover a brief history of printmaking and the many options it entails.

To register for either class or for more information, call Sandra at 259-2606, email Sandra@durangoarts.org or visit www.durangoarts.org.

Young authors to stage musical double feature

Durango Arts Center’s Applause! performing arts program will stage a musical double feature next week, with young actors performing Disney’s “Peter Pan, Jr.” and “The Jungle Book.”

The performances will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday through Aug. 8 at the Durango Arts Center Theatre, 802 East Second Ave.

While “The Jungle Book” will include famous tunes like “The Bare Necessities,” “Peter Pan, Jr.” is a modern version of the timeless tale about a boy who refuses to grow up.

Tickets are $8 and are available at DAC or online at www.durangoarts.tix.com.
