Arts center docents to host open house

The Durango Arts Center Docents will host an open house at 10 a.m. Monday in the Barbara Conrad Gallery, 802 East Second Ave.

The docents are an all-volunteer group of educators, art lovers and community members. Guests are invited to learn about the docents’ “Art in the Schools” program, the docent gallery tour program and the joy of being a docent.

Arts center to offer drawing courses

Durango Arts Center will offer five sessions of “Beginning Drawing” with instructor Ed Bolster from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday from May 7 to June 4.

The cost is $120 for DAC members and $140 for nonmembers. Bolster also will offer “Life Drawing” from 2 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday from May 5 to June 2. The cost is $120 for members and $140 for nonmembers, plus a $35 model fee.

Unitarian Universalist recital series ends

The final presentation in the 2014-15 Recital Series at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will take place at 7 p.m. May 8 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 419 San Juan Drive.

The performance will feature Marc Reed, trumpet, who will be assisted by Marilyn Garst, piano, M. Brent Williams, violin, and Linda Mack Berven, piano. This recital will include a mix of old and new works, a few of which will be included in Reed’s first CD to be recorded in a few weeks.

The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and younger and students with ID.

High school poetry slam to be hosted

Durango Arts Center will host the annual High School Poetry Slam on Wednesday in the center’s theater, 802 East Second Ave.

High school poets can sign-up at 7 p.m. to read.
