Art Career Theorem available

For artists looking to create a successful art life, there is a new resource available for their creative toolbox. ACT, also known as Art Career Theorem, is a visually-facilitated model based on the color wheel to support artists working in all disciplines with art career development.

The ACT model grew from artist Heather Leavitt Martinez’s 15 years of experience working with artists through community art centers and art publishing. Martinez uses graphic facilitation to coach artists through a series of self-assessments and exercises that increase self-awareness and guide artists to set values-based goals, make decisions and sustain the art life they want to live. Upcoming workshops include: “ACT 101: The Foundation” on Oct. 24, and “ACT Applied: Market Your Art on Oct. 25 (ACT 101 is a ) both in Mancos. The last day to enroll is Oct. 17.

Free Rosa Parks program offered

Durango Chautauqua and the Durango Arts Center will present an evening with Rosa Parks: “Setting the Record Straight” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the arts center, 802 East Second Ave.

Scholar/actress Becky Stone will portray civil rights activist Rosa Parks. Chautauqua programs bring history to life as they offer an entertaining and active way of learning about historical figures.

Parks, a black southern woman, became a symbol of the civil rights movement in the 1960s after refusing to give up her seat in the “white section” of the bus she was riding after a day of work. Parks’ story, however, is much more than this one act of civil disobedience. Stone will tell Parks’ story and answer questions. She also will discuss her scholarship and preparation for this role. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.
