Dancing event benefits Community Connections
Dancing with the Stars, Durango Style will take place at 7 p.m. today at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.

Indian arts, culture festival to be held
The 14th annual Indian Arts and Culture Festival will take place May 24 and 25 at the Cortez Cultural Center, 25 N. Market St., Cortez.
The event will showcase Native American storytelling, artistry, craftsmanship and talent. Traditional Native American dances will be held at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the center’s plaza. The Indian Art Market will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and will display the work of traditional poetry, sculpture, clothing, musical instruments, textiles, weaving, bead work, jewelry, baskets, fetishes, kachinas, paintings, drawings and photography by Native American artisans.
This year’s featured artist is Gerry Quotskuyva of Rimrock, Arizona, who carves traditional Katsina dolls.
A Navajo Rug Auction Preview will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday with the Navajo Rug Auction taking place from 1 to 3 p.m.
Magazine to host anniversary event
An art show for the Visionary Cover Artists and the third anniversary party for E.P.I.C. (Empowering People, Inspiring Community) Magazine will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Brew Pub & Kitchen, 117 W. College Drive.

Miniatures club to meet Saturday
The Four Corners Miniatures Club will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mancos Public Library, 211 First St., Mancos.
Attendees will make 55 French baguettes from polymer clay to be included in miniature Paris-themed tote bags that the club will donate for gifts at the Denver Miniatures Show. All supplies and tools will be provided by the club. Participants should bring a brown-bag lunch.

Southern Ute center seeks artists
The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum is looking for five contemporary and traditional Native American artists from the Four Corners to participate in the Art Leadership Program.
This is a grant project in collaboration with the National Museum of the American Indian Smithsonian Institution. Selected artists will work with the SUCCM collections manager and conduct research at local museums, present art talks, receive professional management training and lead a youth public art project.
Native artists should be well-qualified to research Native objects in museum and other collections, document their work and network at the local institutional level. Application deadline is May 30.
