Yoga, writing retreat offered for new year

Joy Kilpatrick and Rachel Turiel are teaming up to lead a yoga and writing retreat for the new year.

The retreat, which will take place from Jan. 23-25 at Inhabit in Durango, is for all levels of yogis and writers. It will feature writing exercises, yoga practice and organic and gluten-free snacks. It is designed to calm, center and inspire participants.

Kilpatrick is a certified yoga therapist and teacher, and Turiel is managing editor of Edible Southwest Colorado magazine.

Weekly oil-painting workshops offered

MK Painting Academy is offering oil-painting workshops in downtown Durango starting this week.

The workshops will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through Jan. 28 at 863 1/2 Main Ave.

No prior experience is required, but students should be 15 or older. Students can take a single class or a four-class session. Workshops are tailored to each student. Call 749-4089 for more information.

Quilt workshop coming to arts center

Leesa Zarinelli Gawlik will teach a workshop for quilters, surface designers and fiber artists from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 16.

“Repeat Pattern Design” is for anyone interested in learning how to construct patterns from a single design.

Using simple techniques, participants will create a print block and learn a series of methods for creating intricate repeat patterns on paper.
