Jewelry exhibit to open at DAC

TOPS Jewelry National Jewelry Design Exhibition will be in display at Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 16.

The exhibit will feature jewelers from the U.S., including showcasing the craft from this region that was developed from the Southwest Native American culture.

The exhibit will be on display through June 28.

Trumpeter to finish recital series

Trumpeter Marc Reed will perform in recital at 7 p.m. today at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and children, and are available at http://durangorecitals.com, by calling (800) 838-3006 and at the door. The recital, the final on 3rd Ave. Arts’ 2013-14 St. Mark’s Recital Series, will include music from Baroque works for two trumpets by Vivaldi and Manfredini to contemporary works and everything in between.

Joining Reed for the recital are trumpeter Andrew B. Classen, professor of trumpet and jazz studies at Drake University in Iowa, soprano Veronica Turner and organist/pianist C. Scott Hagler.

Choral society presents ‘Cabaret!’

The Durango Choral Society will close its 2013-14 “Saints & Sinners” season with “Cabaret!” on May 17 at Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the show will start by 6:15.

Tickets, which include hors d’oeuvres and entertainment, are $50 per person and may be purchased at http://durangochoralsociety.com or call (800) 838-3006. Advance purchase is recommended. If still available, tickets will be sold at the door.

The Jewel Tones from Telluride will be guest artists. Other highlights will include solos by Curtis Storm, Mandy Gardner, Dawn Spaeder, Sarah Choszczyk and Sue Weber.

The women’s choir will sing favorites from the ’50s including “Johnny Angel” and wear period costumes. Music selections will range from “Little Shop of Horrors” to “You’re a Grand Old Flag!”

The Choral Society also will auction the position of guest conductor for the Christmas concert.
