Museum seeks docents for new exhibit

Animas Museum is looking for volunteer docents for the upcoming “Journey Stories” exhibit. The exhibit is part of the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street program, in collaboration with Colorado Humanities.

“Journey Stories” will be at Animas Museum from Jan. 17 to March 18. Most visitors will explore the exhibit on their own, but having a docent available to answer questions enhances their experience. Docents also will assist school groups by conducting observation-based tours.

No formal training or experience is required to become a docent. Docents will be needed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and on some Mondays when school groups schedule visits.

Volunteers may work all day or part of a day as their schedule permits. Training will be provided, and the Smithsonian offers docent guides to assist volunteers. Training will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 16 at the museum, and should take about two hours.

Call the museum at 259-2402 for more information or to reserve a spot for training.
