Arts Briefs for March 7

Merely Players production to open at Arts Center

The Durango Arts Center and Merely Players will present the adult play “Maple and Vine,” written by Jordan Harrison and directed by Mona Wood-Patterson, on March 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. All shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the DAC Theater.

Overwhelmed by their 21st century lives, Katha and Ryu discover a way to escape – moving to a planned community perpetually located in the 1950s. Exchanging cellphones and computers for Tupperware parties and milkmen, the couple is confronted with the question: Which life is really simpler? The play touches on sexism, racism and homophobia as the characters are confronted with the narrow world of the 1950s.

Tickets cost $22 for general admission and $19 for DAC members, available at the DAC (802 East Second Ave.), online at www.durangoarts.tix.com or by phone at 259-2606 ext. 19.
