Photography auction to benefit Bayfield cause

The work of landscape photographer John Wimberley from Ashland, Ore., will be auctioned from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at a private home in Durango. The event is a fundraiser for the artist and for the Bayfield-based nonprofit, Birthing The Future (www.BirthingTheFuture.org).

Founder and director Suzanne Arms will host the event and show a clip from the documentary about Wimberley and his art, philosophy and approach to photography and printing. The film is being considered for inclusion in PBS’ “American Masters” series.

Wimberley’s work can be previewed on www.JohnWimberleyphotography.com.

Birthing The Future’s mission is to help people achieve their full physical, mental, emotional and spiritual potential by transforming how we bring babies into the world and how we protect and support the mother-baby bond from preconception through a child’s first birthday within the context of father, family and community. The goal is to create children and adults who thrive rather than cope, and who are radiantly healthy and creative and able to meet the challenges that face us.

The film, showing and sale of prints below list price, and the auction and a drawing of one print, will be held in Durango. The first 25 people who respond to the open invitation will be invited. For more information and to RSVP, call Arms at 946-6994.

Arts Center to hold auditions for Christmas production

The Durango Arts Center will hold auditions for “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live 1940’s Radio Play” from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in the DAC Theater.

Actors ages 18 and older are needed; no preparation or experience is necessary – just show up to read small scenes from the play. Actors will be using their scripts during the play, so full memorization will not be required.

The directing team can work around conflicts if it is known ahead of time. Bring scheduling conflicts to auditions. Actors must be available for all performances.

Presented as a live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience, actors play the dozens of characters, as well as produce the sound effects, bringing to life the town of Bedford Falls.

For more information, call Theresa Carson at 259-2606.
