One week remaining to enter photo competition
The deadline to enter “EXPOSURE,” Open Shutter Gallery’s annual international photography competition, is Nov. 2. The competition is open to all domestic and international professional and amateur photographers, working with digital or traditional photography or a combination of both.
The show will be selected by the gallery, and the winners of the categories will be chosen by juror and professional photographer Cara Weston.
Entries are to be submitted as digital files on CD or DVD. The exhibit dates are Dec. 6 through Jan. 9.

Learn to harness the sun in workshop at arts center
Durango Arts Center will offer a Solar-Powered Prints workshop with local artist Louise Grunewald from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9 and 10.
Students will learn how to transfer their images to a UV-sensitive Solarplate using the power of the sun. Students will begin by preparing an image for exposure onto a Solarplate.
Techniques for exposing the plate, preparing paper for printing, inking the plate and running small editions on an etching press then will be covered.
Students will end the weekend with small editions of their images and an increased understanding of the world of printmaking.
The class is open to all levels. No printmaking experience is necessary. The cost is $125 for DAC members and $175 for nonmembers. The deadline for registration is today. Register online at www.DurangoArts.org.

Win freezer-full of food at Discovery Museum event
The Celebration of Local Abundance will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio. The event is a fundraiser to help Linda’s Local Food buy equipment that will be used to help support local farmers.
Live music will be performed by Carute Roma.
Tickets cost $20 ($8 for Fort Lewis College students). Admission includes entry in two drawings of freezers filled with local, sustainable food (community drawing for full-size freezer and a dorm-size fridge for FLC students).

Three Springs to host seventh annual Fall Festival
The seventh annual Three Springs Fall Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Three Springs Plaza. The event will include door-to-door trick-or-treating, live music by Dave Mensch, the “Monster Mash Run,” the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Zombie Challenge, a haunted house and more.
