Five thing not to miss this week
There’s no lack of fun events going on in the next week, so we thought we’d help you make some good A&E decisions. Here are five things not to miss this week:
1. Mystery Science 3000 Live “The Great Cheesy Movie Circus.
One of the first Mystery Science Theater shows I caught was its feature of the 1962 film “Eegah!” It made me laugh until I cried. On Thursday, you, too, can laugh until you cry head when original host and the creative vision behind MST3K, Joel Hodgson, puts on the red jumpsuit as the character Joel Robinson for a performance at the Community Concert hall at Fort Lewis College along with robots Tom Servo, Crow and Gypsy. Together, they will riff on never-before-screened films. Tickets cost $34-$54, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.
2. Bohemian Burlesque Hearts Unveiled Valentines Show.
In case you need a reminder, Valentine’s Day is Friday, and if you still haven’t made plans, check out The Bohemian Burlesque Hearts Unveiled Valentines Show at the Powerhouse.
It’s an immersive and theatrical variety show featuring bold, subversive and provocative performance art curated for your pleasure. Hearts Unveiled is Burlesque, Boylesque, comedy and everything in between – an all-around sexy way to spend a romantic evening out – meee-ooww!!
Tickets are $69 for VIP, which will include a table for two with front row views, drinks and an aphrodisiac platter of nibbles to delight the senses; $28 general admission seated; and $20 standing room general admission. This is a 21-and-older event, so leave the kiddos at home.
Doors will open at 8 p.m. Friday with a half hour of exploring the Love Zones. Show will start at 8:30, The Powerhouse, 1333 Camino del Rio.
3. Durango Vagina Monologues 2020.
Even Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” will return to Durango this weekend. It’s a collection of female voices of various ages, races, sexualities and other differences in the form of script to be performed on stage and in front of an audience. All proceeds of the shows at the Henry Strater Theatre will go to SASO (Sexual Assault Services Organization). This show contains explicit sexual content. People under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Price: $15. 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.
4. Four Weddings and an Elvis
If you’re looking for something to do over the state line, hit up “Four Weddings and an Elvis,” playing this weekend at the Totah Theater in Farmington. Sandy, the four-times-married-three-times-divorced owner of a wedding chapel in Las Vegas, has certainly seen her fair share of matrimonies – you’ll get to witness four of her funniest. Price: $12 adults/$10 students and seniors. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Totah Theater 315 W. Main St., Farmington.
5. Ecstatic Dance.
No shoes, no booze, just dance: That’s the philosophy of Ecstatic Dance Durango, a free-form dance party happening every Friday that’s rooted in the intention of a safe, sacred and fun experience. There will be a different DJ every week, live mixing music from around the world. While you’re moving, there will be healthy delights from Estrela Epicure Cafe, massage by Amaya Natural Therapeutics, free samples from Sarvaa Superfoods. Price: $5-$25, free for those 13 and younger. 7 p.m. Friday, VFW Hall, 1550 Main Ave.
