Five things not to miss this week
This is a pretty big week in the world of local Arts & Entertainment – Merely Players is opening its production of “Macbeth,””The New Colossus” swings into town and San Juan Symphony celebrates Beethoven’s birthday (more about these in Friday’s paper). On top of all of those, here are five other things not to miss this week:
1. “Disaster! A ’70s Disaster Movie Musical”
7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-22, 2 p.m. Feb. 23, Farmington Civic Center, 200 W Arrington St., Farmington.
If there’s one thing I love, it’s disaster movies from the 1970s – “Poseidon Adventure,” “Towering Inferno” and let’s not forget “Avalanche,” which was filmed right up the street at Tamarron.
“Disaster!” takes it to the stage, giving you earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos and unforgettable ’70s hits like “Knock On Wood,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Sky High,” “I am Woman” and “Hot Stuff.” Tickets cost $10-$32, and are available online at

.
2. Unchain My HeART

3. Laugh therapy Free Stand-Up Comedy Open Mic

Got a knack for comedy? Test your chops Thursday night at Laugh Therapy’s free monthly stand-up comedy open mic. Open mics are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Comic sign-ups at 7p.m., show starts at 8. Free drink ticket for all performing comics.
4. Durango Voice
7 p.m. Saturday, Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.
Singers, fire up your vocal chords! The singers selected from the initial auditions for The Durango Voice are ready to face the judges in Round One on Saturday night at Henry Strater Theatre. Durango Voice is patterned after the TV show “The Voice,” and is a fundraiser for Manna soup kitchen.
This two-part singing competition showcases some of Durango’s finest talent. On Saturday, singers will perform for the live blind auditions. The finalists will be chosen and professionally coached to compete again in the finals on April 25. Audience members will be able to show support to Manna and their favorite singers by donating dollars to that singer’s account. The singer with the most money earned receives a special prize.
Tickets cost $36 and are available online at

5. Durango Creative District Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Celebration Party

We’re officially a Creative District!
