Photos sought for Farmington show

The Riverside Nature Center is seeking Farmington river-parks photo entries for its annual March Photo Show to be on display from March 7 to April 18.

There is a limit of five submissions, photos must be at least 4 inches by 6 inches (larger is better) and mounted on firm backing or framed. Submissions may be taken to the Riverside Nature Center on or before Feb. 28. Images should be taken in Animas and Berg parks only; pictures of events, scenery, wildlife, activities, pets and people are welcome.

A reception for the photographers will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. March 15. The nature center is located in Animas Park off Browning Parkway in Farmington.

The American Quilt to be discussed

As part of the Durango Arts Center exhibit “Connected by a Thread: Quilts and Quilters from the Four Corners,” Connie Nordstrom will present “Transitions: The American Quilt from 1776 to the Present” from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the center, 802 East Second Ave.

The presentation is free.

Tough Men in Hard Places exhibit to open

“Tough Men in Hard Places,” an exhibit celebrating the tough men who wired the West, will have an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the museum of the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.

Participants will see rare images selected from more than 8,000 in the center’s Western Colorado Power Company Collection. Local author Esther Greenfield will be on hand to answer questions about the photographs and to sign her book Tough Men in Hard Places.
