Arts Center offers unique exhibits

Durango Arts Center is featuring several new exhibits in July and August.

Charlene Geiss is a visiting mixed-media artist and author, and her exhibit, “ReVision: Diaries Reconsidered & Revised” is open through Aug. 27 at the Art Library. It showcases restructured journals and writings as “elements and objects of art.”

From Aug. 12 through Sept. 18, there will be a solo installation of new works at DAC’s Barbara Conrad Gallery by contemporary textile designer Rowland Ricketts. Ricketts uses natural indigo dyes and centuries-old processes to create dynamic textiles.

From his Bloomington, Indiana, indigo farm, Ricketts maintains a natural cultivation and dyeing practice; planting, harvesting and drying the indigo by hand. The process allows him to stay true to this historical Japanese artform.

There will be an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 12, and an artist lecture by Ricketts from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 13.

Free concert to feature “Mo’ Mojo”

The free weekly Concert Hall @ The Park series will continue from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Buckley Park with “Mo’ Mojo.” The group is described as a “hard-driving, high energy, ‘Pardi-Gras’ band.” The female-fronted group features three-part harmonies, accordion, fiddle, guitar, saxophone, trumpet, harp, percussion and more.

Mo’ Mojo’s Zydeco music is in English and French, and the songs are infused with Americana, Cajun, reggae, rock, funk, R&B and African and Latin rhythms.

The concert is presented by Alpine Bank and the Community Concert Hall. Attendees can bring picnic food and lawn chairs to the event, and food vendors will also be present.
