Durango and La Plata County areas need Colorado television access, but the Albuquerque stations want to retain our market for their exclusive use.
Recent federal law has opened the county to Denver coverage, but providers are hesitant in the current situation. An alternative that Albuquerque stations should investigate is to increase their coverage of the county. A dedicated local reporter could bring the coverage that we need directly from the Albuquerque stations. They could add a specific La Plata County segment to their daily news and sports coverage, including more than just emergency information and general weather.
We would gain the access to local events and news and those stations would retain our support instead of treating us like an afterthought.
I encourage others in our county to ask for more from the Albuquerque stations’ coverage as an alternative to waiting for slow business cycles to realize the benefits of our county’s viewership.
