Aspen Club members provide food, gifts for local families

Members of the Florida Aspen Club gathered on Dec. 18 for their annual ritual of wrapping gifts and packing food boxes for several local needy families. The wrapping and packing at Pine Valley Church always ends with lots of delicious homemade munchies.

Money for the presents came from club members and supporters, as well as the silent auction at their pre-Thanksgiving party.

Members Loraine Sufficool and Marilyn Ellis noted that all the food for this year's families was provided by the area Harley Owners' Group (HOG).

The Aspen Club women's community service group has been around since the 1950s. They adopt several needy families each year, with help from Bayfield schools. Their other yearly project is baskets with baby items and gifts for the new mothers. Mercy Medical Center distributes the baskets to low-income moms.
