At the grave of my drill sergeant at Arlington National Cemetery.
I saw on the news that he had been killed while I was working out at the Durango Recreation Center. The reason it made such big news was that three soldiers had been captured and then executed in Yousifiyah, Iraq, on May 12, 2007. Seven soldiers from the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division were killed in action.
This passage is hard for me because I think we did more harm than good in Iraq. The execution of the three captured soldiers also makes one think about whose side God is on.
We all pass away, and he was a good soldier, father and friend who is remembered to this day.
1 John 2:15-17
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
