Athletes were aware of bad behavior

One thing that’s worth mentioning: Before the fall sports season begins, there is an evening assembly in the DHS gymnasium attended by the athletic director, coaches, parents, and student athletes of all fall sports. This is repeated for the winter and spring sports as well. Athletes and parents read over and sign a code of conduct as well as other paperwork that describe behavioral expectations and consequences for negative actions. They should – and most do – take this seriously.

To believe that the students who participated in the Phoenix hotel drug and alcohol incident were unaware that they were doing something wrong or might jeopardize their team’s ability to achieve great things this year would be naive. They and their parents are aware and should not be surprised by the consequences. It’s explicit up front.
