Community members whose support would be needed to make sweeping overhauls to stadiums and tracks at Durango High School and Fort Lewis College are scheduled to discuss the issues involved today with representatives of the educational institutions.

The meeting involving about 20 community members is by invitation only.

The projects will not be cheap. Private-sector funding will be necessary.

DHS faces a bill of at least a $1.8 million for what it wants to do. The cost of the FLC project is estimated at $3 million.

The FLC facilities are in poorer shape than most high schools in the state, meeting facilitator Beth Lamberson said. The DHS facilities have been failing since firefighers camped there during the 2002 Missionary Ridge Fire, she said.

There is no set agenda, Lamberson said.
