There are new anti-Polis mailers and advertisements going around the state. Carrying the line “phony Polis,” they are certainly hard to miss. It’s also hard to miss the hateful negativity that these mailers and advertisements spread.
This pro-Stapleton group, Better Colorado Now, has utilized anti-Semitic overtones to try and steer voters away from Jared Polis, a disgustingly low move by Better Colorado Now. For starters, they refer to Jared Polis as “Phony Polis,” highlighting his name change from Schutz to Polis. The truth is that Jared Polis was honoring his mother by taking her maiden name as his own (he had a formal ceremony with hundreds of people to celebrate this). They show “Schutz” slashed out and replaced by “Polis,” and suggest that Polis has attempted to fool or deceive Colorado voters.
When Better Colorado Now goes to suggest that Jared is a con man and a phony, and even when they try and suggest that Jared attempted to hide his traditionally Jewish surname for political advantage, they are utilizing hateful anti-Semitic stereotypes.
Across our country, hateful, prejudice-based political attacks have run rampant. Colorado is no place for this type of gutter-politics, but Better Colorado Now and their pro-Stapleton efforts have brought them here.
Anything but an unequivocal denouncement from Walker Stapleton is disqualifying.
