Bookshop to launch new Micro Market

White Rabbit Books & Curiosities is expanding its offerings this summer, and it’s looking for local creative types to help fill its inaugural Micro Market.

The market will run May 1 to Sept. 30 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, said White Rabbit owner Keena Kimmel, who said the idea for doing an art market is one that has been tossed around for years.

“This seems to be the year to do it, it’s all coming together with the space, so we’re just going to keep it really small to start,” she said. “And that’s kind of how we roll anyway, so we’re excited to just be able to have a few rotating vendors out there all the time and showcase some local art.”

To apply

Kimmel said the shop is looking for people who can not only sell their work but show off what they do as well.

“We have a food vendor that looks like they’re going to be here June, July and August. We would love to have people that can demo their art specifically – anybody that can demo their craft and really show people what they’re doing. It’s not necessary but it would kind of add an element of fun and interactiveness,” she said. “Any visual artist, anybody with cut flowers, local produce vendors, local people that cater to kids that would be willing to do hair-wraps, face-painting and fun stuff. We’re just really wide open as to any creatives in the area that want to be a part of it – we just want to have a nice fun, diverse group.”

Booths cost $20 for Fridays and $25 for Saturdays and Sundays, and people can request the dates they want.

“I’ve had a lot of ideas for this little garden since we started this space, and I finally have some help this year and I’m able to expand on those ideas and I really want to see that space become more of a creative outlet for people and see it grow and be more of a center for community and just a fun place for people to gather,” Kimmel said. “It has been; I just want to expand that and run with it.”
