Establishing a new tradition, the La Plata County Fair is set to host a special concert event Friday night of the fair, Aug. 11, featuring up-and-coming Country headliner Kyle Park. Special guest Shotgun Lullaby will open the show.
To be staged in the La Plata County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena, the show is set for 8 p.m., with gates opening at 6:30 p.m.
Born and raised outside of Austin, Kyle Park adds a jolt of rock 'n' roll intensity to the mixture of Strait, Waylon, Cash, Haggard and more than a dozen other influences that has helped define his unique artistry.
Park started playing Country venues at age 15. Since then, his singles have regularly settled in the Texas Music Chart's Top 10, with his 2013 single "The Night Is Young" reaching No. 1. He's been tapped to open for artists such as George Strait, Gary Allan, Clint Black, Eli Young Band and other Country stars.

"The fair and 4-H are near and dear to my heart, as I suspect they are to yours," said Gary Penington, event coordinator. "Being a native of rural Colorado and a Durango resident for 40 years, I have always felt the fair represents the core of 'who we are' and 'how we are' as a community. Attending the fair with my little girl was always a tradition. I feel privileged to launch this new tradition at the Fair."
Advance tickets are available at www.durangoconcerts.com, 247-7657, and at the Durango Welcome Center at Eighth Street and Main Avenue in Downtown Durango. Reserved seating is $35, and advance purchase general admission is $18. General admission at the gate will be $20.
