Authorities have identified a homeless man found dead Monday in downtown Durango.
A La Plata County Sheriff’s Office deputy discovered the man’s body around 10 a.m., just off the parking lot at the La Plata County Administration Building at 11th Street and East Second Avenue.
Coroner Jann Smith identified the man as Brian Eby. She did not know his exact age, but said he was in his 60s.
An autopsy performed Thursday was unable to find a cause of death, Smith said. Eby did not die of hypothermia, Smith said. There was also no obvious signs of trauma or indicators why Eby died.
Smith said a toxicology will be performed to help understand why Eby died. The results could take weeks to come back.
Eby was known to be among the homeless community in Durango. Smith said Eby’s next of kin located in Ohio have been notified.
