Babysitter training available for teens

Pine River Library will host a two-day babysitter training course from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 29 and 30 at the library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.

This two-day course will train teens (12 to 18 years old) on basic child care, nutrition, diapering, entertaining kids, a basic understanding of early reading literacy and social/emotional literacy skills and marketing and professionalism.

Alumni PRL babysitters may audit the new training topics. The full training also features an official American Heart Association full-day basic lifesaving course including CPR/first-aid training. The AHA BLS training will be provided through a partnership with Mercy Regional Medical Center and Bayfield High School.

Those who successfully complete the class can add their names to a referral list which helps match local teens with Bayfield-area families looking for child care.

The class is $25 per student, and payment is due at registration. Scholarships are available from the Friends of the Pine River Library for teens needing financial assistance.

Teens must apply for the course and space is limited to 12 participants. Applications are available at www.prlibrary.org/events/event/babysitter-training-2 or at the library information desk and are due by Friday, May 17.

A limited number of spaces are available for Babysitter Training alumni to recertify their CPR/first-aid cards. Cost for recertification is $20.
