Back-to-school immunizations available now

Parents can get their child’s school vaccinations early and beat the back-to-school rush. The La Plata County Public Health Department Clinic has appointments available now to discuss family immunization needs and provide vaccines as necessary. Appointments are usually scheduled within a week. The Public Health Clinic accepts most insurance and is a Vaccine for Children provider for those without insurance.

All students attending Colorado schools and licensed child cares are required to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless the family has filed for an exemption. Health Department Clinic nurses can discuss which vaccines are due based on the child’s age and vaccine history.

In addition to child care and K-12, most students who are physically attending college or university classes also must provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella.

Schedule an appointment now by calling the Public Health Department Clinic at 828-8850. The clinic has a new location in Durango at 150 Mercury Village Drive behind the Durango Stadium 9 movie theater.
