Bag habits are not only sign of stewardship

I know, you don’t really want to read another bag-tax letter. But like many others, I feel compelled to add my “10” cents. I do not necessarily mind paying 10 cents for a bag, assuming the tax revenue is spent wisely. However, it seems that many are quick to pigeonhole certain shoppers as purposeful polluters. Based on the comments of certain readers, I fear I may attract scorn based on my shopping habits. Yet, I do attempt to be a good environmental steward, despite how it must appear as I carry out my grocery bags. I reuse my plastic shopping bags to dispose of cat litter. I know they make cat litter disposal systems, but these are made of thick plastic. I also make attempts to reuse and conserve. We tote all our recyclables to the recycling center and gladly pay a dollar for this service. We have one compact car in our household. We have not purchased a new TV in almost 10 years. We don’t have the newest iPhones. Our toilets are low flow, our thermostat is set low, and our landscaping does not require water. So please, don’t point the finger at me as I bag up my groceries. There is a good chance that despite my bag habit, that I too value minimizing my environmental impact.
