Ballet artistic director celebrates 25 years of teaching in Durango

Frances Rosser Taylor, better known as Miss Frances, is celebrating teaching ballet in Durango for 25 years.

Having taught ballet in New England for 18 years before moving to Mancos in 1999, she was hired sight unseen by Dance in the Rockies on the merit of her credentials. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from Boston Conservatory and a Master of Education as well as professional performing experience.

When Dance in the Rockies came under new ownership in 2011, Taylor opened Ballet Durango to provide a different kind of dance program. She has been operating as its artistic director for the past 12 years.

Ballet Durango will hold open houses and drop-in registration days from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 30 and from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 31 to celebrate Miss Frances’ anniversary and for people to meet some of the faculty.

The school offers classes in ballet, lyrical, contemporary, tap, jazz and pre-ballet. It is also the home of the Durango Youth Ballet. It offers classes for teens and adults of all levels, and children ages 4 and older. The school is located at 225 East Eighth Ave.
