Bats fail Durango High baseball in loss at Farmington

Fifth inning costs DHS

After being held to only six hits, the Durango Demons couldn’t provide any offense to go with some strong pitching.

The Durango High School baseball team began the Piedra Vista Invitational at Ricketts Park in Farmington with a 2-0 loss to Farmington High School on Thursday.

After loading the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning, Farmington’s Ethan Secrest came through with a two-run double to produce the game’s only runs. The Scorpions improved to 2-4 overall and advanced in the winner’s bracket of the tournament.

Andrew Selser pitched a complete game for the Demons (1-3). He gave up two hits and two runs while walking three and striking out five. He hit three batters.

DHS junior Peyton Woolverton hit a double in a 1-for-3 showing at the plate. DHS senior Dylan Carlson was the only player with multiple hits, as he went 2-for-3. Selser also had a hit, as did Kyle Duran and Mark Lamoreaux.

After playing at 9 a.m. Thursday, the Demons will be back at it early again at 9 a.m. Friday against Los Alamos in the loser’s bracket. Los Alamos fell 8-5 to Pueblo West on Thursday.
