No spring break rust remained for the Bayfield High School baseball team.
The Wolverines (4-2) pounded St. Mary’s 18-3 in five innings Wednesday in Alamosa in their first game back from their weeklong break.
They scored in every inning of the game, tagging the Pirates (4-2) for 10 runs in the first two frames.
“Any time of the year it feels pretty good to put up 18 runs, especially against a team that’s been doing pretty well so far this spring,” BHS head coach Jonathon Qualls said. “It’s a good measure of how we compare to the rest of the teams in the state.”
Matthew Knickerbocker picked up the win for BHS. He pitched four innings without giving up an earned run and went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Zane Phelps went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and four runs batted in.
Brody McGhehey also belted a home run and a double and finished with two RBIs.
