Bayfield baseball ranks tops in Colorado in RPI

The Bayfield Wolverines are off to a quick start with a 4-2 record and a No. 1 RPI ranking by CHSAA.

The Colorado High School Activities Association announced its RPI rankings on Monday, and the Bayfield High School baseball team was at the top of the list.

CHSAA is using a new RPI – Ratings Percentage Index – for postseason ratings. A team’s RPI uses an analytic formula that determines a team’s likeliness of making the postseason. Bayfield (4-2) currently ranks No. 1 with .656.

Over the weekend, the Wolverines went 3-0, beating Lamar (4-1) in the process, 10-5. Lamar ranks No. 5 with .592.

Bayfield beat St. Mary’s, 12-10. St. Mary’s ranks 24th with .472. The Wolverines also took down Manitou Springs, 7-5.

Eaton (2-0) ranks second with .604, and SkyView Academy is No. 3 with .600.

Bayfield is currently on its Spring Break, but will return to action when the Wolverines take on the Aztec Tigers at 4 p.m. on April 5 at Aztec.
