The Bayfield High School boys basketball team had two players named to the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 3A All-State team, which was announced Thursday.
Senior guards Hayden Farmer and Keyon Prior were named to the Class 3A honorable mention team after they helped the Wolverines reach the first round of the state playoffs, where they lost to Delta 67-63.
Farmer was the team’s second-leading scorer and averaged 12.7 points per game along with 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He had double-digit point totals in 14 of 22 games and had a season-high 26 points against Kirtland Central in early December. Farmer played in all 22 games for the Wolverines, who ended the season 11-11 overall with a second-place finish in the Intermountain League.
Prior was the team’s third leading scorer with 9.3 points per game to go with 3.3 rebounds per game. He missed the first seven games of the season because of a football-related injury and did not appear for the Wolverines until the Southwest Classic at Ignacio, where he scored eight points against Durango in his first game back. He had a season-high 17 points against Montezuma-Cortez in the league tournament and reached double-figures in six games. Prior led the team with 3.4 assists per game.
One player who was snubbed from the honorable-mention team was senior shooting guard Turner Kennedy, who was the team’s leading scorer at 16.3 points per game. He also led BHS with 3.1 steals per game and was the team’s second-leading rebounder with five per game. He averaged double-figures in 19 of 22 games and had six games of at least 20 points. Kennedy also had two 30-point performances, against San Juan and Kent Denver in the opening few weeks of the season as he played point guard while Prior was out. He played in all 22 games for BHS and finished the year with 358 points.
Five other players from the 3A Intermountain League made the honorable mention team, including Montezuma-Cortez’s Cordell Baer, who propelled the Panthers to a Great 8 berth. Also making the team was Brenden Crowther of Alamosa, Mason Snarr of Pagosa Springs, Martin Garcia of Centauri and David Mascarenas of Monte Vista.
No area girls were named to honorable mention teams, but two 3A IML players made second-team, Hailey Griego and Devin Wilson of Pagosa Springs.
Durango and Ignacio did not land any players on the CHSAA all-state teams.
