Dear Commissioners Lachelt, Blake and Westendorff:
On behalf of our 75-plus members, we are writing to respectfully request that the Bayfield office of the La Plata County Clerk remain open.
The clerk's office is the only county service available in this area, other than road maintenance and law enforcement.
Closing the Bayfield office will hurt Bayfield businesses. Many people who come to Bayfield from Ignacio, Allison or Arboles to handle business at the Bayfield office also stop to get gasoline, buy lunch, or run errands. We appreciate their patronage and know they'll probably do their errands in Durango if they have to drive to Bodo Park.
We realize that tax revenues are down, but we do not believe this is the correct way to balance the county budget. Thank you very much for your consideration of this matter.
