Bayfield dancer competing at All-State

At last check there was one BHS student-athlete listed to show his/her skills at this weekend's 58th Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Games in Alamosa.

One could have casually assumed it was to be now-graduated senior Eva-Lou Edwards in the cross-country race, but as of Wednesday morning her name was still not on the roster of competitors. In fact, no other Wolverines were listed in any of the games.

But Jackie Schultheiss is.

The Wolverette Dance member was named CHSCA All-State Spirit in the Poms/Dance category, and is scheduled to perform tonight at Adams State University during the All-State Football and tomorrow during the Girls' and Boys' Basketball championships.

The team is coached by 5A Denver East's Terita Walker-Berry and 3A Denver Sheridan's Linda Elliott. The All-State Spirit-Cheer roster's talent is coming mainly from within the I-25 corridor, with only two other dancers from the Western Slope.

At the CHSAA Spirit State Championships, held December 2013 inside the Denver Coliseum, Bayfield had placed 16th in the 3A Cheer class prelims, not making the 'Final Four,' but shot up to second place overall-behind only Evergreen Clear Creek, and ahead of Bennett on tie-break points-in 3A Poms.

CALLED TO LEAD: Ignacio's Thad Cano will also be involved at the ASG's, as a coach (along with 2A Sargent's Randi Asbell) for the All-State Volleyball 'Red' squad.
