On June 15, the town of Bayfield and the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce hosted yet another successful Block Party on Mill Street as an ongoing effort to promote the downtown and to join the community together.
On that same date, the Bayfield Downtown Farmers Market was created and more than seven vendors joined in an effort to promote healthy food choices and personal care items for the residents of this town of 2,500 residents.
The market has a perfect location under the trees that were planted by my two daughters and my preschoolers on Arbor Day in 1984, when Joe Stephenson Memorial Park was dedicated.
I have been watching these trees grow over time and knew they could provide the perfect shelter for the new market to thrive on Mill Street.
I want to thank our eclectic board of directors who made this market happen and to the town of Bayfield and First National Bank of Durango for their monetary support.
Thanks, too, to our devoted vendors and owners of the food truck who continued to reap their harvests and make their products available weekly.
Finally, thank you to our many patrons who grew to depend on the homemade delicious foods and other tempting items.
Because of an early frost and other factors, the market has unfortunately closed for the season. Look for us next June at the same location with the same quality products and dependable vendors, and watch us grow!
