Bayfield girls basketball rolls up Monticello

Big fourth quarter makes it a lopsided game

Behind an 8-2 first quarter and a 17-9 fourth quarter, the Bayfield High School girls basketball team blew past Monticello on Tuesday night in Bayfield.

Captains Macee Shultz and Madison Wells each scored 10 points for the Wolverines (2-2). It displayed a solid all-around game for the Wolverines, who were led by their point guard and center.

Maddy Oltmanns also scored nine points for Bayfield, and Riley Campbell, a freshman guard, added five points.

Bayfield led 15-9 at halftime and extended the lead to 24-13 after three quarters. It was the big fourth quarter output that sent the game to a lopsided result.

Monticello (2-4) was led by eight points from Megan Black. Rianna Shumway added five points in the loss for the Buckaroos.

A week of games against Utah opponents will continue for the Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against San Juan out of Blanding, Utah.
