Sophomore Vivien Clance and junior Wrenalee Moore each placed second in two individual events on Saturday, helping Bayfield Wolverines earn 75 points and place fifth at the BHS-hosted 2025 Pine River Invitational.

Having finished runner-up to Montezuma-Cortez’s Tessa Jackson in the high jump, and to Alamosa’s KayLee Gonzales-Moore in the 100-meter dash, Clance (5-0 in the high jump, 12.92 seconds in the 100) also added a third-place time of 27.42 in the 200 meters. Moore, meanwhile, was second in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, clocking 18.38 seconds in the former and 50.71 in the latter, and Delilah Zink added to BHS’ score with her second-place max of 32 feet, 1-1/4 inches in the shot put.

She also took fourth in the discus with her 91-1 best, and Abigail Robertson clocked a fourth-place 6:11.61 in the 1,600 m run. The Wolverine girls 4x400 relay clocked a third-place time of five minutes, 20.10 seconds, and the 4x2 crew finished fifth in 2:07.88. Leslie Gongora finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing 6-7.

In the girls team standings, AHS (176 points) captured the Invitational’s title, while San Luis Valley rival Centauri (116) came in second and M-CHS (100) third. On the boys side of the spectacle, Montezuma-Cortez racked up a winning 137 points, with Alamosa (118) placing second and Pagosa Springs (107) third.

BHS, meanwhile, tallied 51 points and placed seventh overall.

Clearing 11 feet, seven inches in the pole vault, junior Zach Hufnagel ended up matching M-CHS’ Houston Hurst, but both bettered third-place Zane Pontine of Ignacio by half a foot. Tanner Neeley managed a 6-3 best in the high jump and placed second to Centauri’s Troy Sowards, who cleared 6-9.

Bayfield’s 4x2 (second place, 1:39.05) and 4x1 (third, 44.81) relays ran well, and Ayden Casillas also collected fourth-place results in both the 100- (11.31) and 200-meter (22.88) sprints.

Bayfield will next see action Friday at the Pueblo Centennial-hosted Pueblo Twilight. Action inside historic and renovated Dutch Clark Stadium is slated to start at 12:45 p.m.

While out on the Front Range, BHS will then make the quick I-25 drive north into Colorado Springs on the 3rd to hit Doherty’s Spartan Invite. Action inside revamped Garry Berry Stadium is set to commence at 8:25 a.m.
