Bayfield led 1-0 at halftime, and then Maddy Duran took over.
The Bayfield High School girls soccer team took down Crested Butte 4-0 at home Saturday in a game that will technically go down as a scrimmage, although Crested Butte will finally have a varsity girls soccer team next season.
Crested Butte brought its team to Bayfield on Saturday but technically are only a junior varsity squad this season in the team’s first year in existence.
The Wolverines treated the match like a varsity game, though, and Durango scored three goals in the second half to put it away.
Bayfield’s first goal came in the first half from Taylor Morris.
“We didn’t change much at halftime, we just got better making regular adjustments,” BHS head coach Jen Zelinski said. “We talked to the girls about being more aggressive and being first to the ball, and they played awesome.”
Crested Butte managed a couple of shots on goal, but Savannah Kaufmann made every save with ease.
Bayfield will host two home league games Friday and Saturday against Telluride and Ridgway.
