Bayfield girls soccer hangs on for win over Alamosa

The Bayfield High School girls soccer team scored within the first 10 minutes of its match against the Alamosa Mean Moose, and held on for the 1-0 win in a 3A Region 5 League duel.

Maddy Duran got Bayfield’s lone goal in the 10th minute from a pass from Makenna Cowen, and it was all the Wolverines needed to get the win.

“We had about 29 shots, but we just couldn’t get the shots in,” said Bayfield coach Jen Zelinski in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “It’s comforting that we could get the win coming off a break. It’s good to know that we can win without playing our best.”

Bayfield (3-0-1, 3-1-1 3A Region 5) had 29 shots on goal and Alamosa (3-4, 1-3) just couldn’t keep up.

Savannah Kaufmann had 12 shots on a goal, Duran had 10 and Cowen added seven.

Kailee Millard had three saves at goalie.

Up next for Bayfield is an away game at 4 p.m. on Friday against Crested Butte at Gunnison.
